The Book<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>&gt;&gt;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/festivusweb.com\/festivus-book.htm\">Learn more about <em>Festivus! The Book<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yes, that is correct!\u00a0 A new book about Festivus has been released.\u00a0 Billed as a &#8220;Complete Guide to the Holiday for the Rest of Us&#8221; the book covers every aspect of Festivus from how to get a Festivus pole to what to prepare for dinner.\u00a0 It attempts to answer every question from how you should be airing your grievances to your options for a Feats of Strength competition.\u00a0 In essence it is, \u201cEncyclopedia Festivus\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Written by Mark Nelson, the creative mind behind FestivusWeb.com, the book was written to fill a need in Festivus. \u201cFestivus has progressed to the point where a written tome was necessary, and FestivusWeb.com cannot begin to cover every aspect of Festivus,\u201d Nelson has said. \u201cAlso, in reviewing previous books written about Festivus by Alan Salkin and Dan O\u2019Keefe, neither of those works covers Festivus in such a complete way.\u201d<\/p><div class=\"festi-after-4-paragraphs\" id=\"festi-3205099992\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- FestivusWeb Responsive -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3297689279938125\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3697394480\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p>Sounds serious right?\u00a0 Well, not really. The book has a humorous tone throughout, something many believe makes Festivus more enjoyable. \u201cFestivus is about having fun,\u201d Nelson adds. \u201cSure, a wrestling match can be a serious event, but, when Festivus is concerned, it\u2019s never overly onerous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Included in the book is feedback the website received through a Festivus 2014 survey, which revealed strange details such as what people use as a Festivus pole and how people air their grievances. \u201cWe received some interesting responses,\u201c Nelson reports. \u201cWe\u2019ve included all the feedback in the book\u2026 at least all the feedback that was family-appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zWrh6lt-RdM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Do people still celebrate Festivus? Yes! More and more all the time. The book includes a dozen examples of how people celebrate the holiday.\u00a0 Real people, celebrating real Festivus\u2026 from New Jersey to Burbank.\u00a0 From Pennsylvania to Virginia, and then around the world to Sydney Australia, Regina Saskatchewan and Kandahar Afghanistan, before returning to Wisconsin and Massachusetts.\u00a0 The book is literally telling the story of &#8220;Festivus Everywhere!&#8221; Readers are taken into people\u2019s homes, workplaces, local bars and establishments and even over to the town square to hear stories of unique poles, feats of strength, and special traditions for the airing of grievances.\u00a0 Some parties feature costumes, re-gifting, trivia, humorous name tags and of course just, good old-fashioned elements of a traditional Festivus.<\/p>\n<p>The book also delves into the O&#8217;Keefe family&#8217;s Festivus.\u00a0 Readers are lead to discover the strange rituals which were included in the original family holiday.\u00a0 The author even asks Dan O&#8217;Keefe if he still celebrates Festivus, and receives a very predictable answer: \u201cNo\u201d.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: red; color: #ddd; font-weight: bold:text-align:center; padding: 15px; margin-right: 15px; margin-top: 5px; width: 250px; float: left;\"><strong>&#8220;This book completes Festivus&#8217; transformation from borderline child endangerment to beloved pop-cultural footnote of the late 1990s.&#8221; ~ Seinfeld Writer Dan O\u2019Keefe<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe O\u2019Keefe chapter made me nervous, as I wanted to get it right,\u201c Mark explained. \u201cI managed to have Seinfeld writer Dan O&#8217;Keefe read one of the first drafts of the book.\u00a0 It was important to be sure I had framed his family in good light.\u00a0 Thankfully, his reaction was positive.\u00a0 In fact, the book contains his endorsement on the back cover.\u00a0 Always the joker, the endorsement is humorous, however Dan&#8217;s honest feedback is much appreciated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The reader is also taken on an in-depth overview of &#8220;The Strike&#8221;.\u00a0 For example, did you know that there was originally two actors hired to play the two-faces of Gwen?\u00a0 Also, the book reveals\u00a0some of the lines that were cut from the final episode. \u00a0We\u2019re left to ponder how come we never got to hear the character Frank Costanza say he was going home to &#8220;polish the pole&#8221; in the final cut.\u00a0 Finally, you get to read how a minor character went on to win a Pulitzer Prize. Huh, a Pulitzer Prize?\u00a0 We would have thought appearing in the Festivus episode would have sufficed as the pinnacle of anyone\u2019s career.<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to include every last aspect of Festivus, the author also contacted Mike Kopischke, a parody songwriter who penned some of the first Festivus songs, \u201cO Festivus\u201d and \u201cThe Festivus Bunch\u201d based on the songs &#8220;O Canada&#8221; and &#8220;The Brady Bunch&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0 Mike is a huge fan of Festivus and was more than able to explain the true meaning of the holiday.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a wonderful addition to the book as Mike also offered his humorous song writing talents with a brand new Festivus song for the book.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_269\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-269\" style=\"width: 186px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/festivusweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Capture.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-269 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/festivusweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Capture-196x300.jpg\" alt=\"Capture\" width=\"196\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/festivusweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Capture-196x300.jpg 196w, https:\/\/festivusweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Capture.jpg 483w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 196px) 100vw, 196px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-269\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An aluminum pole appears every time you turn the page<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a chapter about Festivus Dinner, there is a recipe for Mulligatawny soup (Kramer\u2019s favorite), with the explicit instructions to go to your neighbors place to steal the ingredients.\u00a0 A wonderful idea! \u00a0There is also a recipe for Black and White cookies. \u201cThey are not easy to make,&#8221; Mark explains. &#8220;It&#8217;s difficult to spread the icing as nicely as you would see in the same product made by a\u00a0professional baker.\u00a0 If you can do it well, please post a photo.\u00a0 Your talents should be recognized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The book has everything! \u00a0Did we tell you that an aluminum pole is featured on the right side of every page spread? \u00a0Of course it&#8217;s plain and unadorned, just as Festivus aficionados prefer.<\/p>\n<p>The book even contains a glossary of Festivus terminology.\u00a0 Are you wondering why a glossary is necessary?
